I've been a professional photographer since 1984. My personal work has been exhibited at the Chrysler Museum and local galleries. I used to shoot commercial assignments for magazines such as TideWater Virginian and CommonWealth. During the 1990s I operated one of the largest portrait studios in the Hampton Roads market. About 5 years ago I closed them down to simplify my life. Now if the light is gorgeous I can just hop in my car and chase the light! I still do a large number of weddings and commissioned portraits but recently have returned to my 'roots' as a landscape photographer.
It was T.S. Eliot who wrote, 'We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.' ( 'Little Gidding,'). In a sense that's how I feel about my photography at this moment. In the late 70s I was chasing the light in a Ford Pinto with a 4x5 View Camera (that I still own) and doing large black and white prints. Now I'm shooting landscapes digitally and interpreting them in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago. Digital has added another dimension, more depth to my ability to create an image.
I enjoy photography immensely but I play a mean blues guitar too!
